Key Text: Proverbs 14:4
“Where there are no oxen, the feeding trough is clean, but profits come through the strength of the ox.”
Excellent performance and profitability comes as a result of being effective and efficient, and one of the ways of achieving both effectiveness and efficiency is by investing in the right tools for the job that you have at hand. When we fail to use the appropriate tools, we would be subjected to risk of loss, poor performance and a mediocre result.
Solomon leaves us with two options here in key text above: to choose between a clean barn (Lack) or to invest in getting the right tool that will get the jobs done faster and more profitably. Oxen or bulls as we may call them today are important tools that prosperous farmers use back in the days. Farmers who lack them would only have a sparing harvest that would barely feed their families talk less of having profits.
Consider one of the reasons many nations still hold tightly to the title of “THIRD WORLD”, could it be because they still rely heavily on manual labor and do not understand the essence of investing in modern means of production. Could it also be that we invest in a form of education that is outdated and irrelevant for this generation and the next? They plough their farmlands with cutlasses and hoes, pick berries and nuts with hands, hunt wild game, wear skins, and live in huts or tents. The way tires were being inflated 50 years ago is still the same way it’s been done today in many places- hmm!
“You can’t expect to meet the challenges of today with yesterday’s tools and expect to be in business tomorrow.”
Would you like to be a lumberjack with an axe – or with a chainsaw? Would you like to slice meat in a meat processing plant with a knife or a meat slicer? Would you like to be an accountant with an abacus or a computer? Would you like to unload trucks with a forklift or by the muscles in your hands? Well you know the industry where you operate and have a better understanding of what tools and skills you require.
Why not commit from today to saving towards acquiring “Income-Producing –Assets”, invest in yourself as well by improving your skills sets, and above all use the tools and weapons of scripture to gain victory in every area of your life.
You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
Prayer: Father, bless the work of my hands and the fruits of my mind in Jesus name.
