Key Text: Proverbs 19:24 NIV
A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth!
Isn’t it an exaggeration that a man will put his hands inside food and will become too lazy to bring it to his mouth? I would have thought that lazy people would detest the idea of work, but the inability to bring already prepared food to their mouth is mind boggling. However, there are different situations that make people get classified as “sluggards” who will not bring food to their mouth.
The first is when someone wants to know the taste of the food without first tasting it. They analyze the look of the food, the feel of the food, the texture, the color, the smell, the temperature, the size and presentation of the food. They analyze the calorie content, fat content, sugar content you name it. They ask others how the food taste and continue to look at the food until it gets cold and sour.
They are the ones 2Timothy 3:7 refers to as “always learning but never able to come to knowledge of truth”. They are very risk averse; analyzing controllable and uncontrollable circumstances but never taking actions. They do not have any shares but they know all about the Stock exchange market and its volatility. They know all the news but never make headlines; these are spectators in the field play of life. They demand the certainty of success before acting, but that would mean not to act at all.
Consider what Zig Ziglar said “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”.
The only way to really know something is to try it out. You can start small, invest a little, try out your new skill, turn in your own proposal too, use your home as your office, sell from your car, write your first blog, write the first chapter of your book, take the first level of that professional exam… God has food prepared for all of us, are you eating?
Ecclesiastes 11:4 says “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap”
If you continue to analyze and wait for the perfect conditions, others will take your food from you.
You’ve analyzed enough: Take a bite!
Prayer: Lord, help me overcome every self-limiting belief that has kept me from possessing my possessions.
You will succeed.
